When you are ready to get a puppy, this is the order of the process to getting a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy of your own...
We live in a small rural town called New Ipswich, in the beautiful state of New Hampshire. We are surrounded by woods and ponds and nestled in between Temple and Monadnock mountains – a classic New England town in every respect.
While out walking one day my husband and I came across two beautiful dogs. Having never seen a dog like this before I asked my husband what kind of breed they were. He simply said: “Bernese Mountain Dogs”. That is all it took to know what kind of dog would be our first dog when the time was right.
Over the years our family grew from just the two of us, to three children - “and they are all boys”! When it came time to purchase our first family dog we knew without a doubt that a Bernese Mountain Dog was the breed for us. It had to a “durable” dog that was absolutely trustworthy with children for raising our three little Modern Day Knights (as we like to call them). This majestic breed can take the energy and roughness that little boys bring with them, yet serve as a formidable watch dog and protector, and all the while remain affectionate and fun for our family and friends. A perfect mix if you ask me!
I as the mom had only one condition: the dog must be a female, I was feeling way out numbered at this point in our family. Now we have a queen AND a princess in our family now. We named our Berner “Elly”, and depending on the day she can sometimes forget that she is the princess not the queen. We strongly recommend taking training classes with these puppies as the breed responds well to it.
We have had Elly for four years now and she is a wonderful addition to our family. Elly is very social and has such a sweet spirit about her. I love the Bernese markings especially their brown eyebrows – it adds such a familiar sense of personality. She says so much just in how she raises her brows.
In 2013 we decided to take the next step and embark on an adventure as a family and breed Elly so that our boys could experience and help bring life into the world. They also needed to take on the responsibilities of raising a litter and help Elly take care of her puppies. Our boys have not disappointed! They have come right along side us and as a family, slept for days just outside the whelping pen, helped in the constant feeding, and now become great playmates for the puppies! It has certainly brought us great joy to share this experience with them. Now her daughter Elora has stepped in to let Elly retire to being our pet. Elora was the pick of Elly's first litter and has grown to be a wonderful addition to our family as well!
We very well may have the most loved puppies in the world (if it wasn't for the boys going off to school, the puppies wouldn't get much time to rest!). We hope that you enjoy our website and the pictures of our precious pups, both kids and man's best friend!
